Iran Repairs Over Half Damaged Schools

Iran’s Education Minister, Alireza Kazemi, has stated that more than half of the 1,300 schools damaged in attacks attributed to the United States and Israel have already been repaired. According to his remarks, 775 schools have been restored to date. The information was reported on Wednesday (22 April) in a report published by Dawn.

Kazemi further noted that approximately 20 schools were completely destroyed in the incidents. He also identified Tehran, Kermanshah, Isfahan, and Hormozgan provinces as the areas that experienced the most significant damage to educational infrastructure. These regions accounted for the highest concentration of affected schools.

The minister indicated that restoration work is ongoing for the remaining damaged schools, with particular focus on those that sustained the most severe structural impact. He expressed the expectation that repair work on the most heavily affected schools will be completed by October.

Despite the damage to educational facilities, Kazemi stated that the education system continued to function throughout the period of conflict. According to him, schooling was maintained both through in-person instruction and remote learning arrangements. This included the use of the Iranian Television School programme, which was utilised to support continued academic delivery during the disruption.

He also stated that counselling services were made available to students during this period. These services were introduced to address educational and psychological support needs arising from the disruption to normal schooling conditions.

In addition, Kazemi referred to commemorative activities held in schools. He stated that memorial ceremonies were organised in educational institutions following a missile strike on the Shahreye Taibaieh girls’ school in Minab. That incident resulted in 170 fatalities, the majority of whom were schoolgirls and their teachers, according to his statement.

The minister’s remarks outlined both the extent of damage sustained by educational infrastructure and the measures taken to maintain continuity of education during the period of disruption. They also highlighted ongoing reconstruction efforts and the planned timeline for completion of repairs to the most severely affected schools.
