A Bangladeshi national sustained gunshot injuries on Saturday morning after being shot by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) near the Jamalpur border in the Daulatpur sub-district of Kushtia.
The incident took place at around 9:30 am roughly 300 yards inside Indian territory, directly opposite the operational sector managed by the Jamalpur Border Outpost (BOP). In an immediate response to the shooting, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) patrol teams took up defensive positions and opened fire across the perimeter to safeguard local Bangladeshi residents and deter further military aggression.
According to an official press release issued by the border force, the injured civilian was struck in the leg during the shooting. However, military officials have not yet disclosed the victim’s name, age, or personal identity, nor have they clarified the specific reasons for his presence near the international boundary. Details regarding his present medical condition, emergency treatment, or whether the BSF has formally offered an explanation remain undisclosed.
Following the exchange of fire, 47 BGB Kushtia Battalion deployed additional personnel along the Jamalpur frontier, significantly escalating routine patrols and perimeter surveillance to prevent potential escalation. The Commanding Officer of 47 BGB, Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Roni, affirmed that troops are maintaining maximum vigilance and professionalism to uphold national sovereignty and secure frontier communities.
Border crossings, agricultural activity in adjacent fields, and livestock grazing frequently generate diplomatic and security friction along the border. Local commanders have urged residents residing in frontier villages to strictly refrain from unauthorized movements or unapproved activities near the boundary line while bilateral discussions and site investigations continue.
