BRAC Worker Killed in Road Accident

A tragic road accident in Rajapur has claimed the life of a field officer of BRAC after he was struck by construction machinery while travelling home on his motorcycle.

The deceased, Mo. Sihab Uddin, was a resident of Mahilara village in Gournadi upazila of Barishal district and served as a field worker at BRAC’s Bhandaria branch. The fatal incident occurred on Monday morning at approximately 9:30 am in the southern part of Rajapur along the Barishal–Bhandaria regional highway.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, an excavator (commonly known as a “vexu” machine) engaged in canal excavation work was attempting to enter the highway from a roadside worksite. At the same time, Sihab Uddin was passing the area on his motorcycle while commuting from his workplace in Bhandaria towards his home.

As the heavy construction machine moved onto the highway, its rotating arm suddenly swung outward. In a devastating moment, the metal arm struck the head of the motorcyclist with great force. He sustained fatal injuries and died instantly at the scene before any medical assistance could be provided.

Local residents quickly gathered following the crash and informed Rajapur Police Station. Law enforcement officers arrived shortly afterwards, recovered the body, and transported it to the police station for formal procedures. The excavator operator reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident, and efforts are underway to identify and locate him.

Police have stated that an investigation has been launched to determine whether negligence or safety violations contributed to the accident. Further legal action will be taken after consultation with the victim’s family.
