Residents and business owners in several parts of the capital are preparing for a temporary disruption to their main gas supply today, Tuesday, 22nd September, to allow technical teams to execute urgent repair work on the underground distribution network. Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited formally issued a statement late on Monday night, advising domestic and commercial consumers in the affected zones to make necessary domestic arrangements ahead of time.
According to the schedule released by the state utility operator, gas supply will be suspended completely from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm. The five-hour shutdown is required to facilitate essential maintenance aimed at securing structural integrity, repairing line defects, and ensuring long-term operational efficiency across the urban grid.
The complete outage directly affects households, eateries, and commercial facilities in South Paikpara, Sonali Nagar, and both the eastern and western sectors of Bottola, along with their surrounding residential pockets. In addition to the primary zones undergoing work, Titas Gas warned that adjacent neighbourhoods may experience significantly reduced gas pressure during the afternoon. While burners in nearby homes might not go entirely dark, flame strength is expected to be weaker than normal until repairs are completed.
Given the timing of the disruption, lunch preparations and early afternoon domestic activities will face brief interruptions for families relying entirely on piped supply. Restaurant owners and light industrial operations in the vicinity have also been forced to adapt their operational hours to mitigate potential losses.
Infrastructure maintenance and pipeline realignments are routinely conducted by Titas Gas to maintain safety standards and eliminate leakages across the aging metropolitan network. Engineering crews expect to restore standard gas pressure progressively across all impacted areas once the physical repairs conclude at 5:00 pm, though full restoration will ultimately depend on real-time technical progress on the ground.
