Police have recovered the floating body of a 51-year-old marketing consultant, Md Jabeed Ahmed, from Dhanmondi Lake in the capital. The discovery was made on Tuesday morning near the bridge behind the Abesh Hotel along Road No. 10 in Dhanmondi. His remains were subsequently sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
According to police reports, passers-by spotted the body in the water at approximately 7:30 am and immediately alerted the local police station. Officers arriving at the scene retrieved the body and discovered a National Identity (NID) card in his possessions, which helped identify him as Jabeed Ahmed, son of Salauddin Ahmed. Using the credentials from the NID card, law enforcement officials contacted his family. His wife, Shahana Jabin Khan, subsequently arrived to confirm his identity.
Providing further details regarding his recent circumstances, Shahana informed investigators that the couple resided in the Bhatara area of Dhaka. She explained that her husband had been unemployed for an extended period, which had plunged the family into severe financial hardship and left him deeply distressed.
Sub-Inspector Abdul Gafur of Dhanmondi Police Station confirmed that all preliminary legal procedures have been completed, and the body has been transferred to the morgue. Authorities expect the forensic examination and post-mortem report to clarify whether the incident was accidental, a suicide, or involved foul play. Police investigations into the exact sequence of events leading up to his death remain ongoing.
