Chhatra League Activists Stage Swift Demonstration Near Patiya Police Station

A group of masked individuals, reportedly associated with the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), staged a sudden early-morning demonstration on the main highway in Patiya upazila, Chittagong. The event unfolded merely a short distance from the local police station, raising fresh concerns over security vigilance in the area.

According to local reports and eyewitnesses, the incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday, 29 July, along the main thoroughfare near the Patiya Municipality Post Office. Residents noted that the location of the rally was situated less than 200 yards from Patiya Police Station. The small procession, consisting of around eight to ten young men with their faces entirely covered, was allegedly led by Partha Das, known locally as an organiser for the Patiya Municipality branch of the Chhatra League.

During the swift demonstration, the masked participants marched down a stretch of the highway while chanting political slogans, including “Sheikh Hasina asbe, Bangladesh hasbe” (Sheikh Hasina will return, Bangladesh will smile) and pays homage to the nation’s founding leader. The group completed a brief loop along the road before dispersing rapidly to evade law enforcement intervention, leaving local residents startled by the sudden gathering.

Addressing the incident, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patiya Police Station, Ziaul Haq, confirmed that authority officers received intelligence regarding an unauthorized morning procession on the highway. He noted that because all participants wore face masks to conceal their identities, immediate on-site identification was not possible. However, the police chief assured that an active investigation is currently underway, with officers reviewing available evidence to identify the individuals involved and take appropriate legal action.
