A Dhaka court has ordered a fresh investigation into a case brought against actress Tanzin Tisha by fashion designer Sanaya Chowdhury over allegations of fraud, breach of trust and threats. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police will conduct the further investigation after the court accepted the complainant’s objection to an earlier report submitted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
On Sunday, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam granted the complainant’s petition challenging the PBI’s final report and directed the CID to investigate the allegations further. The court has instructed the investigating agency to submit its report by 31 December.
Shubhra Sinha Rony, the lawyer representing the complainant, confirmed that the court had assigned the further investigation to the CID.
Fashion designer Ayesha Anum Fayazah Sanaya Chowdhury filed the case against Tisha at a Dhaka court on 27 November 2025. The court had previously assigned the investigation to the PBI.
On 25 May 2026, the PBI submitted its final report, stating that it had found no evidence to substantiate the allegations against the actress. It also recommended that she be discharged from the case. However, Chowdhury was dissatisfied with the findings and filed a petition challenging the report. The court subsequently accepted her objection and ordered the case to be transferred to the CID for further investigation.
A Tk 75,000 sari at the centre of the dispute
According to the complaint, Chowdhury operates a fashion house and studio on Road 127 in Gulshan, Dhaka. On 13 December 2024, Tisha allegedly took a sari valued at Tk 75,000 from the designer to wear at an event.
Chowdhury claimed that the garment was supposed to be returned the following day, after the event, but was not handed back.
The complaint states that on 15 December 2024, Chowdhury contacted Tisha through Facebook Messenger to request the sari’s return. She alleged that the exchange escalated, with the actress using abusive language and threatening to kill her.
The designer further alleged that she encountered Tisha at two award ceremonies on 13 and 18 March 2025. On both occasions, she reportedly asked for the sari to be returned, but it remained unreturned, according to the complaint.
Further allegations and a police diary entry
The complaint also refers to an alleged incident on 10 November 2025. Chowdhury claimed that Tisha contacted her through a Messenger call and threatened her over the possibility of filing a case, while also threatening to damage her social standing.
Two days later, on 12 November, the designer lodged a general diary (GD) with Gulshan Police Station in connection with the alleged incident.
The allegations concerning the sari, the reported threats and the subsequent police diary entry form part of the case now being examined by the CID. The further investigation will follow the PBI’s earlier conclusion that the allegations could not be substantiated.
CID investigation to determine the next steps
The court’s decision to order further investigation does not mean that the allegations against Tisha have been proved. Rather, it allows the matter to be examined further after the complainant challenged the findings of the previous investigation.
The CID will now be responsible for examining the allegations and submitting its findings to the court within the stipulated deadline. The report may help the court determine the appropriate next steps in the proceedings.
The case centres on a disputed garment and allegations of threats, but its legal outcome will depend on the evidence examined during the investigation and the subsequent judicial process. Until the allegations are established through the relevant legal proceedings, they remain claims made by the complainant rather than proven findings against the actress.
With the report due by 31 December, attention will now turn to the CID’s findings and how the court responds to the results of the further investigation.
