Police in Daudkandi, Cumilla, have seized drugs estimated to be worth around Tk 30 million during a series of operations over the past two months. The drives also led to the recovery of firearms and ammunition, while 286 people were arrested in connection with drug, robbery, snatching, theft and other cases, according to police.
Mohammad Sajedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Model Police Station, confirmed the information on Sunday morning, 6 September.
According to the officer, police recovered 124,966 yaba tablets, 727kg 400g of cannabis, 1,575 bottles of Fairdil, 1,201 bottles of Scarf syrup and six bottles of Botka during the two-month period. The estimated market value of the seized drugs could be around Tk 30 million, police said.
The operations also resulted in the recovery of two foreign-made pistols and five rounds of ammunition. Police did not provide further details about the origin of the firearms or whether they were directly linked to any particular criminal case.
The arrests covered several categories of cases. Police detained 58 people in drug-related cases, while 94 were arrested under existing warrants. Another 56 people were arrested in robbery cases, and 28 were detained in connection with allegations of snatching and theft. A further 75 people were arrested in other cases. Taken together, the figures bring the total number of arrests during the two-month period to 286.
The scale of the operation reflects the challenges faced by law-enforcement agencies in Daudkandi, an area with considerable strategic and geographical importance. The Dhaka–Chattogram Highway passes through the area, while the Meghna and Gomti rivers also form part of its surrounding transport and geographical network. Such connectivity makes effective policing and monitoring important for maintaining public order and tackling criminal activity.
The police said their operations have focused not only on drug seizures but also on preventing crimes involving weapons, robbery, snatching and theft. Regular drives are being conducted as part of efforts to maintain law and order in the area.
Sajedul Islam said the police were continuing their activities under the direction of the police superintendent. He added that efforts to recover illegal drugs and weapons would continue alongside operations against robbery, snatching, theft and other forms of crime.
Police said the ongoing operations would remain focused on maintaining a stable law-and-order situation in Daudkandi and disrupting criminal activities through continued enforcement measures.
