DMP Arrests 528 in 24-Hour Drive Across Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 528 people and filed 53 cases during a 24-hour enforcement drive across the capital, targeting a range of alleged offences, including drug-related activities and the production or possession of counterfeit products.

The figures were disclosed in a press release issued by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division on Thursday (8 October).

The arrests were made by different DMP divisions and specialised units operating across Dhaka. The Mirpur division recorded the highest number, with 102 people arrested during the operation. It was followed by the Wari division, which reported 75 arrests, while 73 people were detained in the Tejgaon division.

The Lalbagh division arrested 67 people, while 63 were arrested in Uttara. The Motijheel division accounted for 53 arrests and the Gulshan division for 52. In the Ramna division, 33 people were arrested.

The police’s specialised units also took action. Nine people were arrested by the Detective Branch, while one person was arrested in an operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

According to the police statement, officers recovered cannabis and yaba during the drive. One bus and nine mobile phones were also seized. Other items recovered included non-judicial stamps, cash, adulterated medicines and cosmetics, along with equipment allegedly used to manufacture such products.

The arrests and seizures reflect the range of enforcement activities carried out by the metropolitan police, from tackling narcotics-related offences to taking action against the circulation or production of adulterated goods. However, the DMP did not provide a detailed breakdown of the specific allegations against each of those arrested.

The 53 cases filed during the same 24-hour period will proceed through the relevant legal process. Police said further legal action against the arrested individuals was under way.

Regular enforcement drives are conducted by the DMP across different parts of the capital as part of efforts to address criminal activity and maintain public order. The latest operation involved both the metropolitan police divisions and specialised units, with arrests reported across most of the city’s major policing areas.

The police statement did not provide further details about the individual cases, the exact quantities of drugs recovered or the specific locations where the seizures were made. Those details may emerge as the legal proceedings progress.
