Ebadot Hossain to Miss Historic Australia Tour for Childbirth

Bangladesh fast bowler Ebadot Hossain has pulled out of the upcoming Test tour of Australia to be beside his expectant wife. The tall paceman is set to become a father for the first time during the series and has opted to prioritize family over national selection.

The upcoming bilateral series carries significant weight for Bangladesh, who last played a Test match on Australian soil back in 2003. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side are scheduled to play a two-Test series against Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Steven Smith starting this August, marking an end to a 23-year wait for a red-ball tour down under.

A official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the development to our representative, stating that Ebadot will not be available for selection as he has already submitted his formal leave application.

Adding to the team’s selection concerns, the BCB is closely monitoring the fitness of rising fast bowler Nahid Rana. The tearaway paceman suffered a muscle strain whilst bowling during the second T20I against Zimbabwe, which ruled him out of the final fixture of that series.

Nahid underwent diagnostic scans on Wednesday, 22 July, with the BCB medical unit expecting the full evaluation report shortly. Medical experts note that recovery from such muscle injuries typically requires two to three weeks. BCB officials remain optimistic that whilst the youngster may miss the opening match, he should recover in time for the second Test.

The tour kicks off on 13 August with the first Test in Darwin, followed by the second and final Test starting on 22 August in Mackay. With Ebadot absent and Nahid working against the clock to regain full fitness, Bangladesh’s pace unit faces an immediate test of depth ahead of the historic tour.
