A madrasa teacher has been detained in Faridpur’s Char Bhadrasan over allegations that he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old student. The detainee has been identified as Mohammad Masud, 27.
The alleged incident took place on Thursday (1 October) in an area near the border between Char Bhadrasan and Sadarpur upazilas.
According to police and local sources, Masud was employed as a teacher at Purba BS Dangi Jamia Islamia Darul Quran Madrasa in Char Bhadrasan. An allegation was made against him concerning a 13-year-old student enrolled at the madrasa. The allegation subsequently became known in the locality, leading to tension among residents.
At one stage, several local people reportedly restrained Masud and tied him to a tree on the madrasa premises. Police were informed and a team from Char Bhadrasan Police Station went to the site.
Sub-Inspectors Karim and Golam, along with other members of the police team, detained Masud and took him to the police station.
Masud is the son of Mahbur Goldar from the Godagara area of Dumuria upazila in Khulna district. He had been working as a teacher at the madrasa where the alleged incident was reported.
Char Bhadrasan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Safar Ali said the location is situated near the administrative boundary between Char Bhadrasan and Sadarpur police jurisdictions. The madrasa itself, however, falls under Sadarpur Police Station.
He said the initial legal procedures were being completed before Masud was to be handed over to Sadarpur police for further action. Legal proceedings concerning the allegation are currently under way at Sadarpur Police Station.
The police officer said the allegation would be investigated before any further legal measures are taken. The investigation will seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate course of action under the law.
The fact that the incident occurred near the boundary of two police jurisdictions has also required coordination between the two police stations. Police said the relevant information and circumstances would be examined as part of the investigation.
The incident drew a local reaction after the allegation became known, with residents reportedly restraining the teacher before police arrived. He was subsequently taken into police custody.
As the allegation has not yet been established through a judicial process, Masud cannot be treated as guilty at this stage. Police have said that any further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and the applicable legal procedures.
