Siddhirganj Police have recovered a stolen covered van and 614 looted blankets following a coordinated raid across the Siddhirganj and Fatullah areas of Narayanganj. Law enforcement officials arrested five active members of a robbery gang suspected of direct involvement in the heist. Journalists were briefed on the details of the breakthrough on Tuesday afternoon.
Acting on a credible tip-off, a specialised police team launched the operation at approximately 5:30 AM on Tuesday. The raid was orchestrated under the direct supervision of Mohammed Emdadul Haque, the Officer-in-Charge of Siddhirganj Police Station, alongside Sub-Inspector Mo. Masum Billah and an accompanying tactical force. Sensing a police presence, the suspects attempted to evade capture, but officers managed to surround and detain them across various strategic locations in the twin sub-districts.
The authorities identified the arrested individuals as Abdur Rahim, aged 42; Mo. Faruk, also known as Babu, aged 40; Mo. Rofiqul Islam, aged 40; Abdul Gaffar, aged 37; and Abdur Rahman, aged 30.
Preliminary police enquiries suggest that this particular group operates as an organised highway robbery ring, frequently targeting freight transport and commercial covered vans navigating the crucial industrial corridors of Narayanganj. During this specific incident, the gang intercepted the cargo vehicle to siphon off high-value winter goods, which were later hidden in secret storage facilities across Fatullah and Siddhirganj with the intention of selling them on the black market.
Following the arrests, officers conducted a systematic search based on information extracted during initial interrogations, successfully discovering the entire consignment of 614 blankets entirely intact. The stolen covered van used to transport the goods was also seized from the scene and impounded at the police station.
Narayanganj remains a critical manufacturing hub, and local authorities have recently intensified patrolling to curb cargo theft and protect supply chains. Siddhirganj Police confirmed that formal legal proceedings are currently underway to file a comprehensive case against the detained individuals. Investigators are probing further to determine if the network has broader ties to other inter-district crime syndicates or fence buyers operating within the region.
