Former Bhola District Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Mostak Ahmed Shahin has been arrested by law enforcement officers in connection with a long-running criminal case dating back to 2019.
According to police, Shahin was detained at around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday night (15 July) during a joint operation conducted at his residence in Ward No. 8 of Bhola Municipality. The operation was carried out by members of Bhola Sadar Model Police Station and the district Detective Branch (DB) as part of an ongoing investigation into a previously filed case.
Police officials said the arrest was linked to legal proceedings arising from a case filed over an alleged attack and vandalism at the Bhola District BNP office in 2019. Investigators stated that Shahin had been under legal scrutiny in connection with the case and that his arrest was necessary to facilitate the next stages of the judicial process in accordance with court procedures.
Local sources said a team of police officers arrived at Shahin’s home during the early hours of the morning and carried out the operation without incident. The surrounding area remained calm throughout the raid, and no reports of resistance, unrest or any other untoward situation emerged. After being taken into custody, Shahin was transported to the police station, where the required legal formalities were completed before he was presented before the court.
Bhola Sadar Model Police Station’s Investigation Inspector, Ziauddin Ahmed, confirmed that Shahin was produced before the Bhola court on Wednesday morning. Following the hearing, the court ordered that he be sent to jail pending further legal proceedings. Police said the case will continue to move forward in line with judicial directions and the progress of the investigation.
Investigators added that the inquiry remains active and that officers are continuing to gather documentary evidence and other relevant materials required for the case. They stressed that all investigative and procedural steps are being carried out in accordance with existing laws and under the supervision of the court. Any future developments or decisions relating to the case will be communicated through the appropriate legal channels.
The case itself stems from an incident in 2019 involving allegations of vandalism at the Bhola District BNP office. It has remained before the courts for several years, reflecting the often lengthy nature of criminal proceedings involving politically sensitive allegations. As with other pending cases, law enforcement agencies are responsible for implementing court directives, executing arrest warrants where applicable, and ensuring that accused individuals are brought before the judiciary as required by law.
Police emphasised that the arrest should be viewed as part of the normal legal process rather than a conclusion of the case itself. Under Bangladesh’s criminal justice system, an arrest enables investigators and the courts to proceed with judicial formalities, while questions of guilt or innocence remain matters for the court to determine based on the evidence presented during trial.
Officials also reiterated that investigations and judicial proceedings will continue until the case reaches its legal conclusion. They maintained that every step taken by the authorities has been carried out in compliance with court orders and the country’s applicable legal framework.
