US President Donald Trump has warned that military operations against Iran could intensify significantly if Tehran does not return to negotiations in the coming days, signalling that key infrastructure could become the focus of future strikes.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump said the coming week could be “very difficult” for Iran if its leadership refused to engage in talks or pursue a negotiated settlement. He claimed that any expanded military campaign would concentrate on infrastructure linked to Iran’s strategic and military capabilities, including power generation facilities and major transport links.
In his strongest remarks, Trump declared: “Next week is going to be truly devastating for them. Our targets will be their power plants and bridges. If they refuse to negotiate and reach an agreement, we will destroy all of their power plants and bridges.”
The comments come amid claims that US forces have carried out air strikes against locations inside Iran for a fourth consecutive day. Reports have also indicated that stringent naval restrictions targeting Iranian ports have been reimposed, increasing pressure on Tehran and fuelling concerns that the limited ceasefire observed in recent weeks has effectively collapsed.
The apparent breakdown of the ceasefire has heightened fears of a broader regional confrontation. Analysts believe that renewed military action could further undermine diplomatic efforts, making a negotiated solution increasingly difficult to achieve as both sides harden their positions.
Attention has increasingly shifted to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes. A substantial share of globally traded crude oil and other energy supplies passes through the narrow waterway each day. Any escalation in military activity around the strait has the potential to disrupt international shipping, affect global energy supplies and trigger volatility in oil markets.
Strategic observers believe both Washington and Tehran are seeking to strengthen their positions around the vital shipping corridor, raising concerns that any miscalculation could rapidly widen the conflict beyond the two countries.
Asked how long the current military campaign would continue, Trump reiterated his uncompromising stance, saying: “The operation will continue until I decide that enough is enough.”
His remarks suggest there is no clearly defined timetable for ending the military campaign, leaving uncertainty over the duration and scale of future operations.
International affairs specialists have warned that public threats of expanded attacks on critical infrastructure could significantly increase regional tensions. They argue that while military pressure may be intended to force negotiations, it also risks provoking retaliation, reducing opportunities for diplomacy and increasing the likelihood of a prolonged conflict.
Security experts have repeatedly cautioned that sustained instability in the Middle East could have consequences well beyond the region. Higher energy prices, disruptions to global trade routes and increased uncertainty in international financial markets are among the risks associated with an extended confrontation. As a result, the evolving dispute between the United States and Iran is no longer viewed solely as a bilateral crisis, but as a development with potentially far-reaching implications for international security, global energy stabil
