Sanjid Hasnat, the younger brother of former Narayanganj-3 lawmaker Abdullah Al Kayser Hasnat, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Sonargaon, Narayanganj.
The 44-year-old was arrested at around 4pm on Saturday from Rain Forest Eco Resort in the Mogorapara area of Sonargaon. Tarek Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of police (crime) in Narayanganj, confirmed the arrest.
Sanjid is the son of the late Abul Hasnat and the younger brother of Abdullah Al Kayser Hasnat, who previously represented the Narayanganj-3 constituency in parliament. According to police, Sanjid is a member of the Sonargaon upazila unit of the Awami League.
Police said information about Sanjid’s alleged involvement emerged during the investigation into a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Sonargaon Police Station. Investigators subsequently moved to arrest him in connection with the case.
Tarek Al Mehedi said a DB team conducted an operation at the resort after receiving specific information about Sanjid’s presence there. Officers arrested him from the premises and later showed him as arrested in the case under investigation.
The police have not, however, disclosed the specific allegations brought against Sanjid. Details of the information or evidence obtained during the investigation that allegedly links him to the case have also not been made public.
As a result, the precise nature of his alleged involvement remains unclear. The ongoing investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and determine what further legal action may be warranted.
Sanjid’s arrest has attracted attention in Sonargaon’s local political circles, largely because of his family connection to the former MP and his reported membership of the local Awami League unit. His arrest is also part of an ongoing police investigation into a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Police said the investigation remains in progress. Further information about the allegations and Sanjid’s alleged involvement may emerge as investigators continue examining the case.
At this stage, the police have provided no further details about the specific charges beyond confirming that he was arrested in connection with the case. Any subsequent legal proceedings will depend on the findings of the investigation.
