According to French broadcaster , 141 people were arrested in the capital, Paris, alone. The Paris Police Prefecture said the majority of those arrests were linked to the use of firework mortars aimed at police officers and emergency responders. Such fireworks, which are capable of causing serious injuries, have increasingly featured in incidents of public disorder in France, prompting swift intervention by security forces.

In Lyon, hundreds of football supporters had gathered in Place Bellecour to watch the semi-final on a giant outdoor screen. Many remained in the square after the match ended, with the atmosphere initially remaining calm. Tensions escalated when several small groups began throwing fireworks and various projectiles towards police officers, leading to a rapid security response.

To contain the situation, local police called in the specialised riot control unit CRS 83. Officers dispersed the crowds and detained around 20 people during the operation. Local authorities said most of those taken into custody were young people born between 2002 and 2011. Investigators are examining allegations including public disorder, attacks on law enforcement officers and the misuse of fireworks.

Despite the disturbances, officials stressed that the overall impact of the unrest remained limited. Authorities confirmed that no serious injuries had been reported during the clashes, either among police officers or members of the public. They also said there had been no reports of significant damage to public infrastructure or private property.

Police maintained an increased presence in affected areas throughout the night to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety. Security patrols remained active around key public spaces where supporters had gathered to watch the match.
