Gazipur Teacher Accused of Abducting Student After Rejected Proposal

A madrasa director and headteacher has been accused of abducting an eighth-grade student after she allegedly rejected his romantic advances in Bekebari, Gazipur district. The girl’s father has filed a case against five people at Joydebpur Police Station, alleging that the teacher abducted his daughter with the assistance of four others.

Police have confirmed that the student has been rescued and said efforts are under way to arrest the accused.

The principal accused in the case is Ariful Islam, 29, director and headteacher of Markazul Quran Adarsha Women’s Madrasa, situated in the Sikdar Market area of Bekebari, in Gazipur Sadar upazila.

The four other accused are identified as Md Sharif Mia, 35; Md Selim Mia, 55; Rahima Khatun, 40; and Md Delwar Hossain, 45. According to the case details, they live in rented accommodation in the Baniarchala and Pirojali areas of Gazipur. Their ancestral home is in Charbawla, under Mymensingh Sadar Police Station.

Alleged harassment after rejected proposal

According to the complaint, the student was attending the madrasa when Ariful Islam allegedly proposed a romantic relationship with her. She did not accept the proposal, after which he allegedly began harassing her in various ways.

The complaint further states that the student was threatened with abduction by force. When she informed her family about the alleged harassment and threats, her relatives reportedly approached the teacher and asked him to stop the behaviour.

The family alleges that Ariful Islam became angry after they intervened.

Five people named in abduction case

The complaint states that on the morning of 10 October, after the student had gone to the madrasa, Ariful Islam allegedly abducted her with the assistance of the four other accused.

Those named in the case include his brother, Md Sharif Mia; his father, Md Selim Mia; his mother, Rahima Khatun; and Md Delwar Hossain.

After the girl went missing, her family searched for her but could not find her. Her father subsequently approached the police and filed a case against all five individuals on Sunday night.

The complaint identifies the five people allegedly involved in the incident, but the allegations have yet to be established in court. No response from the accused was included in the information available about the case.

Student rescued, police pursue suspects

Joydebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Al Mamun confirmed that a case had been filed against five people in connection with the alleged abduction.

He also said the student had been rescued and that police were making efforts to arrest the accused.

The case has brought attention to the importance of safeguarding students, particularly minors, in educational institutions. Teachers and institutional leaders hold positions of responsibility and are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students. Allegations of harassment, intimidation or coercion involving children require careful investigation and an appropriate legal response.

The police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s disappearance and determine the extent of each accused person’s alleged involvement. Until the allegations are examined through the legal process, the accused must be presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
