Authorities in Ghaziabad, India, are intensifying their investigation into the tragic deaths of three sisters who fell from the ninth floor of a residential apartment complex. New revelations have emerged linking the sisters’ father, Chetan Kumar, to a previous suicide case in 2015, prompting investigators to reassess the circumstances surrounding the girls’ deaths.
Police reports indicate that while Kumar was married to two women, he maintained a “live-in” relationship with another woman. In 2015, that woman reportedly fell to her death from the roof of a flat in Rajendra Nagar Colony, Sahibabad. Her death was officially classified as a suicide, and subsequent legal proceedings were closed. This prior incident has now resurfaced as investigators examine potential patterns in Kumar’s family environment.
Deputy Police Commissioner Nimish Patel, speaking to news agency PTI, confirmed that authorities are reviewing the previous case as part of the current investigation. “We are analysing the family dynamics and psychological wellbeing of the children to understand the factors leading to this tragedy,” Patel stated.
The victims have been identified as Nishika (16), Prachi (14), and Pakhi (12). On the evening of the incident, the girls reportedly locked themselves inside their apartment at India City Residential Complex and jumped from the balcony. Neighbours were alerted by the noise around 2:15 a.m., and emergency services rushed the children to a hospital in Loni, where they were pronounced dead.
According to police sources, the sisters were reportedly addicted to online Korean games. Their parents had confiscated their phones to curb the gaming habit, which may have contributed to the tragic decision. Investigators are exploring whether the games themselves included suicide-related elements in their final stages, as indicated by notes the girls left behind.
Family and financial details of Chetan Kumar:
| Name | Age | Mother | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nishika | 16 | Sujata | Eldest daughter; jumped from 9th floor |
| Prachi | 14 | Heena | Middle daughter; jumped from 9th floor |
| Pakhi | 12 | Heena | Youngest daughter; jumped from 9th floor |
| Debu | 4 | Tina | Youngest child; present in home but unharmed |
Kumar reportedly has three wives: Sujata (mother of Nishika), Heena (mother of Prachi and Pakhi), and Tina (mother of Debu). Police further revealed that Kumar is a stock market investor with outstanding debts of approximately ₹2 crore. In order to cover household expenses, he allegedly sold his daughters’ mobile phones. Investigators also noted that the children had not been attending school for the past two years.
The investigation has uncovered that the girls maintained an eight-page diary documenting their fascination with Korean culture alongside indications of domestic tensions. In a suicide note addressed to their father, the children wrote, “We love Koreans.” Authorities believe the girls had adopted Korean online personas and usernames, and may have been influenced by the gaming content.
Police have classified the deaths as suicides, while continuing to investigate the family’s complex dynamics and the extent to which gaming addiction may have played a role. Officials emphasise that the ongoing inquiry will examine both the psychological state of the children and any broader social and familial factors contributing to the tragedy.
