Gold Prices Rise Amid Middle East Calm

International gold prices moved higher on Monday as easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, a weaker US dollar and falling oil prices reshaped investor sentiment, boosting demand for the precious metal.

According to the information provided, the recent pause in hostilities involving Iran and the United States has influenced global financial markets, with gold regaining strength after a period of uncertainty. While geopolitical risks have eased temporarily, investors continue to view gold as a key safe-haven asset amid an unpredictable global economic outlook.

As of 10:30am on Monday (27 July), spot gold had risen by 0.9 per cent to $4,087.79 per ounce. US gold futures also advanced, climbing 0.5 per cent to $4,089.90 per ounce, reflecting continued investor interest in the metal.

Market analysts said the movement was driven by a combination of factors. International oil prices fell by more than 4 per cent, easing concerns over inflationary pressures that had intensified during the recent period of regional conflict. At the same time, the US dollar weakened against other major currencies, making gold less expensive for buyers using foreign currencies and helping to support demand in the international market.

A senior Iranian official reportedly told Reuters that Iran would refrain from further military action provided the United States did not launch additional attacks. At the same time, the report said the United States had temporarily suspended its bombing campaign following advice from President Donald Trump’s advisers. Although the situation remains fluid, the apparent reduction in military activity has contributed to greater stability across global financial markets.

Investors are now turning their attention to the upcoming meeting of the US Federal Reserve, scheduled for 28–29 July. Financial markets broadly expect policymakers to leave interest rates unchanged at this meeting. Even so, analysts believe there remains a 76 per cent probability that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates in September, depending on inflation, employment data and broader economic conditions.

Monetary policy decisions by the Federal Reserve are closely watched because higher interest rates generally increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as gold. Conversely, expectations of lower or unchanged rates often provide support for precious metal prices.

The improved market sentiment was not limited to gold. Other precious metals also recorded gains during the same trading session. Silver rose by 1.7 per cent, platinum increased by 1.5 per cent, and palladium advanced by 1.6 per cent, indicating broader strength across the precious metals sector.

Analysts believe that gold prices will continue to be influenced by three key factors in the coming weeks: developments in the Middle East, movements in the US dollar, and the outcome of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting. Any renewed geopolitical tensions or unexpected changes in monetary policy could quickly alter market direction, while sustained stability may encourage investors to reassess their demand for traditional safe-haven assets.
