Harry Kane Overtakes Messi as Ronaldo’s Records Beckon

Harry Kane has moved ahead of Lionel Messi in the tally of Champions League goals scored after the age of 30, adding another milestone to his prolific career. The Bayern Munich forward is now looking to extend his remarkable scoring run and close the gap on records held by Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane scored twice in Bayern Munich’s 3–3 draw against Viking in the Champions League, producing another strong individual performance despite his side’s failure to secure victory. His goals took his tally in the competition after turning 30 to 36, moving him past Messi, who scored 35 in the same age category.

The comparison also favours Kane when appearances are considered. The England international has reached 36 goals in 40 matches, eight fewer than the 48 appearances Messi made to register his tally. The figures underline Kane’s efficiency in front of goal and his ability to maintain a high scoring rate as he progresses through the later stages of his career.

Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, enjoyed considerable success in the Champions League, winning the competition four times with Barcelona. His record remains a benchmark for attacking players, making Kane’s latest achievement a notable addition to the English striker’s growing list of individual accomplishments.

Ronaldo, however, remains well ahead in this particular category. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 68 Champions League goals after turning 30, achieving the total in 74 appearances. Kane still has a substantial distance to cover, but his current form offers an opportunity to add to his tally and move further up the competition’s historical rankings.

Kane Targets Ronaldo’s Consecutive Scoring Record

Kane is also chasing another Champions League record associated with Ronaldo: the longest run of consecutive matches in which a player has scored.

His brace against Viking extended his scoring streak in the competition to nine successive matches. That puts him alongside Poland international Robert Lewandowski and former Netherlands striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who have also scored in nine consecutive Champions League appearances.

Ronaldo holds the record among these players, having scored in 11 successive matches. The achievement reflects the consistency that helped establish him as one of the most prolific forwards in the history of European club football.

Kane is now two matches away from equalling that mark. Maintaining his run would bring him level with Ronaldo’s achievement, while scoring in a further match would give him the opportunity to move beyond it.

Sustaining such a streak is a demanding task. The Champions League brings together leading clubs from across Europe, and each match presents different defensive challenges. Even prolific forwards can struggle to find the net when chances are limited, making consecutive scoring runs a measure of both finishing ability and consistency.

Kane’s performances this season have nevertheless been encouraging. Across all competitions, the 33-year-old has scored eight goals in nine appearances and supplied four assists. Those figures highlight his contribution not only as a finisher but also as a player capable of creating opportunities for his team-mates.

At Bayern Munich, Kane has become a central figure in the attack, combining intelligent movement with clinical finishing and an ability to link up with other forwards. His goal return and creative contribution make him an important part of the team’s attacking play.

His latest achievement places him ahead of Messi in one significant statistical category, while Ronaldo remains the next major benchmark. Whether Kane can match the Portuguese forward’s records will depend on his ability to maintain his current form over the coming matches.

For now, his immediate challenge is clear: extend his nine-match scoring streak and continue adding to his Champions League tally. With his finishing touch showing little sign of fading, Kane has given himself a genuine opportunity to pursue further milestones in European football.
