Ishaan Mozumder Unveils ‘Dhoop’, a Song of Loss and Remembrance

Singer-songwriter Ishaan Mozumder has released ‘Dhoop’, a new song exploring grief, memory and the enduring emotional bonds between people and the loved ones they have lost. The track is now available on YouTube and follows the strong reception of ‘Patar Bashori’, his collaboration with Sunidhi Nayak for Coke Studio Bangla.

Released in July, ‘Patar Bashori’ attracted widespread attention, surpassing 65 million views on YouTube in less than two months. Its success helped bring Ishaan’s work to a wider audience, prompting interest in his subsequent releases.

With ‘Dhoop’, Ishaan turns towards a more intimate subject. The song explores how memories of someone who is no longer present can return through ordinary experiences, familiar surroundings and seemingly insignificant moments. Sunlight serves as its central image, representing the subtle ways in which everyday life can evoke the presence of a lost loved one.

Rather than focusing exclusively on the pain of separation, the song examines the emotional space between absence and presence. A familiar scene or a quiet moment can suddenly bring someone to mind, making a distant memory feel immediate. These recollections may carry sadness, but they can also offer comfort by preserving a sense of connection with those who are gone.

The song’s central theme gives it a personal dimension while addressing an experience that many listeners can recognise. Grief often persists beyond the immediate period of loss, finding expression in ordinary routines and unexpected reminders. Through its imagery, ‘Dhoop’ reflects this quiet relationship between memory and everyday life.

A Personal Recording That Took Three Years to Emerge

Ishaan wrote, composed and performed ‘Dhoop’. Dippro Ahmed played the piano and handled the production, while the two musicians collaborated on the arrangement. Andy contributed the violin, Adri Biswas was responsible for mixing and mastering, and Rohit Das directed the music video.

The track brings together Ishaan’s songwriting and performance with contributions from a team of musicians and production professionals. The piano and violin form part of its musical texture, supporting a theme centred on reflection, longing and remembrance.

Speaking about the release, Ishaan said he had recorded ‘Dhoop’ three years ago, initially intending to keep it for his own listening rather than share it with the public.

The song continued to evolve over time. Ishaan and Dippro spent a considerable period working with the recording before deciding to release it, allowing the track to develop beyond its original form.

The extended journey from private recording to public release offers an insight into the creative process behind the song. What began as a personal musical expression has now been made available to a wider audience, with its themes of loss and remembrance forming the heart of the finished work.

Following the Success of ‘Patar Bashori’

The release marks another step in Ishaan’s musical journey following the popularity of ‘Patar Bashori’. The earlier song, featuring Sunidhi Nayak, reached millions of listeners through Coke Studio Bangla, while ‘Dhoop’ presents a different emotional focus.

The contrast between the two releases highlights the range of subjects explored in Ishaan’s work, from a widely received collaboration to a more inward-looking song shaped by personal reflection.

‘Dhoop’ is available on Ishaan’s YouTube channel, ‘Ishaan er Gaan’. Its focus on the lasting presence of loved ones through memories offers listeners an opportunity to connect with the emotions that can remain long after a person is gone.
