Land Feud Ends in Brutal Killing

A long-standing land dispute in Kishoreganj has reportedly escalated into a fatal attack, leaving a 35-year-old man dead and his uncle accused of involvement in the killing.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the Purbachor Patalia area of Lohajuri Union under Katiadi upazila. The deceased, Anwar Hossain, aged 35, was the son of Safi Uddin from the local village. His uncle, Morm Ali, has been named by family members as the primary accused in the case.

According to local accounts, tensions between the two branches of the family had persisted for years over ownership and control of ancestral land. Repeated attempts at mediation through community arbitration meetings failed to produce a lasting resolution, and the conflict gradually intensified over time.

Eyewitnesses and relatives stated that a minor dispute on Friday reportedly triggered a violent confrontation. Later in the afternoon, residents discovered Anwar Hossain lying in a severely injured and bloodied condition on the staircase of a local secondary school in the area. He was already dead by the time help arrived.

Family members have made serious allegations regarding the circumstances of the attack. The victim’s mother, Shirin Akhter, claimed that she and other family members were away from home at the time of the incident. She alleged that Morm Ali, accompanied by several associates, entered their residence and attacked her son with sharp weapons before confining him inside the house.

She further alleged that the attackers later moved the injured victim outside and left him on the school premises, where he eventually died. According to her statement, bystanders were allegedly prevented from approaching or assisting him during the critical moments.

The victim’s sister, Salma Akhter, also described the killing as premeditated, claiming that the accused exploited the absence of other family members to carry out the attack. She demanded immediate arrest of those involved and exemplary punishment through legal channels.

Police from Katiadi Model Police Station recovered the body from the scene in the evening. Officials confirmed visible injury marks on the deceased and stated that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination at Kishoreganj District Hospital. Authorities also confirmed that the accused individuals fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Investigations are ongoing, and police have said that appropriate legal action will follow based on evidence gathered.
