Barguna Home Raid: Three Arrested

A violent armed robbery in Betagi upazila of Barguna has left a house owner injured by gunfire, with police subsequently arresting three suspects in connection with the incident.

According to police and local sources, a group of 8 to 10 masked intruders broke into the residence of a man named Rimon (34) in the Bailey Bridge area of Betagi Sadar Union late on Friday night. The attackers reportedly entered the house under cover of darkness and immediately held the family members at gunpoint, creating a state of panic and terror inside the home.

Once inside, the gang ransacked multiple rooms, breaking open cupboards and searching belongings in a coordinated manner. They managed to loot cash and gold ornaments of significant value before attempting to flee the scene.

As the robbers were escaping, the homeowner, Rimon, attempted to resist and confront them. During the ensuing struggle, the assailants opened fire, shooting him and causing serious injuries. The gunshot triggered alarm and screams from family members, after which the gang quickly fled the area.

Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion and assisted in taking the injured man first to Betagi Upazila Health Complex. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where he remains under medical care, according to family members.

The incident has sparked widespread concern in the locality, with residents reporting a growing sense of insecurity amid a perceived rise in theft and robbery cases in recent weeks. Many locals have called for stronger nighttime policing and increased patrols to prevent further criminal activity.

Following the incident, police launched an immediate operation and detained three individuals suspected of involvement in the robbery and shooting. Authorities stated that further investigations are underway and efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend other members of the gang.

Officer-in-Charge of Betagi Police Station, Harun-ur-Rashid Hawlader, confirmed that law enforcement officers visited the crime scene shortly after being informed. He added that a case is in the process of being formally registered and that operations are ongoing to ensure all those involved are brought to justice.

The attack has heightened concerns over rural security, with residents urging authorities to strengthen preventive measures and ensure regular monitoring of vulnerable areas.
