Lawyer Found Dead in Manikganj Flat

Police in Manikganj have recovered the hanging body of a practising lawyer from his rented residence in the Char Beutha area of Sadar upazila, in an incident that has cast a pall of grief over the local legal community.

The deceased, Shahidul Islam, 36, was an advocate at the Manikganj District Judge Court. He was the son of Belayet Hossain of Jamunabad village under Shimulia ইউনিয়ন in Shibalaya upazila. Colleagues described him as a regular presence in court, handling both civil and criminal matters, and said his untimely death had come as a profound shock.

According to police and local sources, Mr Islam had been living in the rented house in Char Beutha with his wife and their young child. At approximately midnight on Tuesday, family members reportedly found him hanging from the ceiling of a room in the house. Neighbours were alerted and rushed to assist, but he was unresponsive.

Officers from Manikganj Sadar Police Station arrived at the scene around 1:00 a.m. and recovered the body. A preliminary inquest report was prepared before the body was sent to the morgue of Manikganj Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. The autopsy is expected to determine the precise cause of death.

Inspector (Investigation) Aminul Islam of Manikganj Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that initial findings suggest the death may have resulted from suicide, allegedly linked to domestic discord. An unnatural death case has been filed, and further enquiries are under way to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Members of the local Bar Association expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Several colleagues noted that the pressures of legal practice, combined with personal challenges, can place considerable strain on young professionals.
