Kylian Mbappe has suffered a setback in his long-running financial dispute with former club Paris Saint-Germain, after the Paris Court of Appeal ordered the France captain to pay €60,000 to the French club.
The ruling centres on an attempt made by Mbappe in 2025 to have PSG’s bank accounts seized as part of the continuing dispute. French sports daily L’Equipe reported that the court’s decision represents an important legal victory for PSG, even though the amount involved is relatively small compared with the wider financial claim between the two sides.
Mbappe left PSG in August 2024 and joined Spanish giants Real Madrid. His departure brought an end to a high-profile period in Paris, where he had established himself as one of the club’s leading attacking players. Yet his move to Madrid did not bring an immediate end to disagreements over payments connected with his time at PSG.
After leaving the club, Mbappe claimed that PSG owed him €60 million in outstanding bonuses and other incentives. The dispute subsequently became the subject of proceedings involving French football authorities and the courts.
Mbappe had received support from the legal committee of the French professional football league, known as the LFP. However, the matter remained unresolved between the player and PSG. In early 2025, Mbappe took the dispute to the labour court, seeking a legal route to recover the money he believed was owed to him.
As part of that process, his side sought the seizure of PSG’s bank accounts. The latest ruling by the Paris Court of Appeal concerns that attempt. Rather than securing the requested action against the club, Mbappe has now been ordered to pay €60,000 to PSG.
The sum is considerably lower than the €60 million claimed by the player. As a result, the financial value of the ruling is not expected to be particularly significant for a club of PSG’s scale. Its importance is instead linked to the legal position of the two parties and the direction of the wider dispute.
For PSG, the decision provides a measure of relief after a prolonged disagreement with one of the most prominent players in its recent history. The club has faced Mbappe’s claim for outstanding payments since his departure, while the player has continued to pursue what he considers to be unpaid financial commitments.
The dispute also highlights the complicated circumstances surrounding Mbappe’s exit from Paris. During his PSG career, he became a central figure in the club’s attack and one of the most recognisable players in European football. His eventual move to Real Madrid marked a major change in his career, but financial matters between the player and his former employers remained unresolved.
The latest court decision does not necessarily settle every issue surrounding the €60 million claim. The broader disagreement over the payments remains the central issue in the legal battle, meaning further developments could follow.
For now, however, PSG has secured a favourable ruling at the appeal stage. Mbappe’s attempt to have the club’s bank accounts seized has not produced the outcome he sought, while the court has ordered him to make a €60,000 payment to his former employers.
Although the amount itself is modest in the context of elite European football, the ruling carries greater significance for PSG because of the legal and symbolic weight attached to the dispute. The case between Mbappe and his former club therefore remains an important off-field chapter in the aftermath of his departure from Paris.
