Police recovered the body of a 40-year-old man from the bank of the DND Lake in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, on Thursday morning (3 September). The deceased was identified as Tapan Shil, a resident of the Mizmizi Alamin Nagar area of Siddhirganj.
The body was recovered from the western bank of the lake near Paglabari intersection in the Siddhirganj Pool area. According to local sources, a man who had gone out for his morning walk noticed the body lying beside the lake and informed the police.
After receiving the information, officers from Siddhirganj Police Station went to the spot and recovered the body. It was subsequently taken to the police station as part of the initial legal procedures.
Tapan Shil worked at a local salon, according to people familiar with the family. His ancestral home is in the Sitakunda area of Chattogram, although he had been living in Siddhirganj.
Local residents said Tapan had not returned home on Wednesday night (2 September) following an argument with his wife over a family matter. His body was found beside the lake the following morning. However, it was not immediately clear where he had gone after leaving home or what had happened to him before his death.
Police have not yet established the circumstances surrounding the death. No definitive conclusion has been reached regarding whether he died from an accident, illness or any other cause. Investigators are examining the available information and the circumstances preceding the recovery of the body.
Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Emdadul Haque said the body had been recovered and brought to the police station. The deceased’s wife had been informed of the incident.
The body will be sent to Narayanganj Hospital for a post-mortem examination, the police officer said. The report is expected to help determine the actual cause of death.
Police have also begun an investigation into the incident. Investigators are expected to examine Tapan’s movements before his death and gather information from people who may have been aware of his whereabouts after he left home.
As the cause of death remains unclear, police have urged that no conclusion be drawn until the post-mortem findings and other investigative evidence are available. The next course of action will depend on the findings of the examination and the overall investigation.
