In a harrowing development in Munshiganj, the body of an elderly man who had been missing for nearly two weeks has been recovered from a ten-foot-deep pit beneath a kitchen floor. The deceased, identified as 60-year-old Awlad Hossain, was discovered at the residence of his brother-in-law (his wife’s sister’s husband) in the Sirajdikhan sub-district. Following the gruesome discovery, police authorities have detained four individuals, including the victim’s second wife, in connection with the suspected murder.
The recovery operation took place late on Tuesday night, at around 1:30 am, in the Chainpara village of Jainsar Union, where law enforcement officials excavated the kitchen floor to retrieve the remains.
The investigation began following the mysterious disappearance of Awlad Hossain. His family lost all contact with him, prompting his brother to file a General Diary (GD) with the Sirajdikhan Police Station to initiate an official missing person investigation. Despite initial search efforts, his whereabouts remained unknown for a significant period.
The breakthrough in the case came following an intensive intelligence-led operation. Acting on specific actionable data, a police team raided the residence of Khair Bepari, the victim’s brother-in-law. Upon searching the premises, investigators focused on the kitchen area, where they eventually excavated the soil and uncovered the body buried approximately ten feet beneath the surface.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the motive behind the brutal killing appears to be rooted in a domestic dispute regarding property ownership. Investigators revealed that Awlad Hossain had married twice during his lifetime. Following the demise of his first wife, Nazma Begum, he entered into a second marriage.
The relationship with his second spouse, however, became fraught with tension. Police sources indicate that she had been placing immense pressure on Hossain to legally transfer his properties and assets into her name. Hossain’s steadfast refusal to comply with these demands is believed to have triggered the fatal conspiracy.
“Initial interrogations indicate that the second wife, unable to secure the property through persuasion, orchestrated a meticulous plan to eliminate her husband with the assistance of an accomplice named Saiful.”
After allegedly committing the murder, the conspirators sought to conceal the crime permanently by burying the body deep within the confines of the relative’s kitchen floor, assuming it would evade detection.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sirajdikhan Police Station, Md. Alauddin, confirmed the details of the raid, the recovery of the body, and the subsequent detentions. During initial interrogation while in police custody, the four detained suspects reportedly confessed to their direct involvement in the killing and the subsequent disposal of the body.
The police administration has scheduled a formal press briefing to present the comprehensive findings of the investigation, clarify the exact roles of the four detainees, and outline the formal charges to be brought against them. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause and time of death as legal proceedings commence.
