A tragic road collision in the Bhola Sadar upazila has claimed the life of a 17-year-old motorbiker, identified as Md Sojib, and left two others injured. The fatal accident occurred on Thursday evening at approximately quarter to eight in the evening along the busy Bhola-Ilisha road near the Buri Mosque area in Bapta union.
According to local witnesses, the young victim, hailing from Guptamunshi village in ward number eight of the local Ilisha union and son of Md Faruk, had set out after dusk on a friend’s motorcycle. Accompanied by two friends, Sojib was travelling from Paranganj Bazar toward Bhola town when tragedy struck. As their vehicle approached the Buri Mosque locality, it collided head-on with an oncoming battery-powered auto-rickshaw heading towards Ilisha.
The violent impact left the young biker, one of his companions, and the driver of the auto-rickshaw seriously injured. Quick-responding locals rushed the victims to the 250-bed Bhola General Hospital for immediate medical attention. Upon evaluation, the duty medical officers advised transferring Sojib and the auto-rickshaw driver to the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment due to the severity of their injuries. However, Sojib succumbed to his critical injuries while being transported to Barishal. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the other injured individuals.
Local law enforcement agencies responded promptly to the distressing incident. Md Monirul Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhola Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the occurrence and stated that a police team was dispatched to the scene immediately following the report. Officers successfully recovered the damaged motorcycle from the site. Legal proceedings regarding the tragic crash are currently underway as authorities look into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
