Motorcyclist Killed in Bus Collision in Tongi

A 34-year-old electrical engineer was killed and another person injured when a passenger bus collided with their motorcycle in Tongi, Gazipur, on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway in the Munnugate area of Tongi. Police later recovered the body and seized the bus involved in the crash. The bus driver and assistant reportedly fled the scene following the incident.

The deceased was identified as Tuhin Islam, son of Nur Islam of Andalbari village in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district. He lived in the Dhaka Udyan area of Mohammadpur in the capital and worked as an electrical engineer.

According to police, Tuhin was travelling towards Dhaka from Gazipur on a motorcycle with another rider, identified as Ahidul Islam. When they reached the Munnugate area, a Dhaka-bound Anabil Paribahan bus struck the motorcycle.

The collision left both riders seriously injured. Local residents rushed to the scene and rescued them before taking them to Tongi’s Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital. The attending doctor declared Tuhin dead after he was brought to the hospital. Ahidul was also injured in the crash and was receiving medical attention, according to the information available.

The accident caused concern among local residents and commuters in the busy area. The Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway is a major transport route connecting the capital with Gazipur and other parts of northern Bangladesh, and it regularly carries a large volume of buses, motorcycles, private cars and other vehicles.

Following the crash, police went to the scene, recovered Tuhin’s body and took the bus into custody for further investigation. The driver and the assistant, however, had reportedly left the area before police arrived.

Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Tongi East Police Station, confirmed that the bus had been seized. He said legal proceedings were under way in connection with the accident.

Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and determine how the crash occurred. The authorities will also take further legal action based on the findings of the investigation.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by motorcyclists and other road users on busy highways, where heavy passenger vehicles and smaller vehicles often travel alongside one another. The circumstances of the crash, including the actions of the bus crew and the movement of the motorcycle, will be examined as part of the ongoing legal process.
