The State Minister for Education, Babi Hazzaj, has announced that multiple legal cases have been filed against Mamunul Haque, the candidate of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami, for allegedly seizing polling centres and attacking opposition party workers during the 13th national parliamentary elections.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, 22 February, while visiting injured party activists at a private hospital in Dhanmondi, the minister stated, “Mamunul Haque directly orchestrated attacks at several polling stations on election day. Over a hundred party workers were injured, and many remain hospitalised.”
Hazzaj emphasised that the ruling party faced numerous challenges prior to the elections on 12 February, with opposition attempts to seize polling centres. “These violent incidents will not go unpunished. Every injured worker’s case will undergo a thorough investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken,” he added.

In response, Mamunul Haque denied the allegations. He stated, “Despite their attempts to harm us, we had already won. There was no major clash on election day. Police intervened as people approached the polling centres, and later the army arrived to separate both sides.”
Haque further accused law enforcement agencies of responsibility for any minor disturbances. “The police and army controlled any small incidents. Now, after opposition attempts to manipulate votes, cases are being filed against us. They must bear full responsibility for this situation,” he said.
Political analysts have warned that such allegations and counterclaims could heighten tensions in future electoral environments. Ensuring proper medical care for injured activists and initiating transparent legal proceedings are likely to be key concerns for political and administrative observers in the coming weeks.
The filing of cases against Mamunul Haque and his strong counterclaims have sparked fresh controversy within national politics, signalling that the upcoming electoral processes may see intensified political manoeuvring and heightened scrutiny from both authorities and the public.
