Newborn’s Body Found Abandoned in Rajbari Rubbish Dump

Police have recovered the body of a newborn baby wrapped in cloth from a rubbish dump in front of the district food warehouse in the Binodpur area of Rajbari Sadar Upazila, in an incident that has shocked local residents and prompted a police investigation.

The body was recovered at around 9:30 am on Thursday after local people alerted the authorities upon making the grim discovery.

The infant was first spotted by Habibur Rahman, a waste collector who had gone to the dumping site as part of his daily routine. Recounting the incident, he said that he noticed what appeared to be a plastic bag lying among the rubbish. Curious, he opened it and was horrified to find the body of a newborn wrapped in cloth inside.

“I was frightened at first,” he said. “After recovering from the shock, I informed nearby residents. They came to the scene, saw the body, and immediately contacted the police.”

The discovery quickly drew the attention of people living in the surrounding area, many of whom expressed deep sadness and disbelief over the incident.

Local resident Atahar described the scene as heartbreaking, saying that countless families spend years hoping and praying for a child, while someone had abandoned a newborn in such a cruel manner. He said the incident reflected a disturbing disregard for human life and left many residents struggling to comprehend how such an act could occur.

Police officers from Rajbari Sadar Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report and recovered the body for further legal procedures.

Officer-in-Charge Uttam Kumar Ghosh told Jugantor that police were informed of the incident at around 9:30 am and immediately dispatched a team to the location. Senior officials have since been notified, and an investigation has been launched to identify those responsible.

As part of the inquiry, investigators are collecting and reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the surrounding area in an effort to trace anyone who may have been involved in abandoning the infant. Police are also examining other available evidence that may assist in identifying the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death and abandonment.

Following the completion of the necessary legal formalities, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. The findings are expected to help determine the cause of death and provide investigators with further leads.

The incident has sparked widespread grief and concern within the local community. While police continue their investigation, residents hope those responsible will be identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
