A newlywed bride was allegedly intercepted and abducted from her wedding microbus by a local political activist and a group of associates in Kishoreganj’s Hossainpur upazila, sparking widespread shock and police intervention.
The incident unfolded late on Sunday night within the Hajipur market area of Jinari union. According to local witnesses and law enforcement accounts, the wedding procession was returning from Nayapara village in Sidhla union, where the marriage ceremony of Tamanna Aktar and Akhtar Mia from Rajabaria village in Mymensingh’s Nandail upazila had just concluded.
As the bridal microbus approached the Hajipur market intersection, a group of twenty to twenty-five young men blocked its path. Eyewitness reports indicate that the assailants, led by a local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist named Atiqur Rahman Miyad, proceeded to vandalise the vehicle before forcibly removing the bride. Tamanna Aktar was dragged from the microbus against her will, leaving the groom, family members, and wedding guests stranded.
In the wake of the abduction, details regarding a prior romantic relationship between the accused and the bride surfaced within the local community. Residents claimed that Miyad and Aktar shared a longstanding attachment that had failed to culminate in marriage due to parental disapproval and family resistance. Shortly after the episode, Miyad posted a status update on his personal Facebook account that read, “I have nothing more to ask for in life,” accompanied by smiling and heart emojis.
Law enforcement agencies and local political leadership reacted swiftly to the breach of public order. Delwar Hossain Rajib, member secretary of the Hossainpur upazila unit of Chhatra Dal, acknowledged that the accused was associated with the organisation, noting that questions regarding internal accountability were being addressed. Raiful Islam Nawsad, general secretary of the district Chhatra Dal unit, confirmed that party leaders were aware of the incident and that formal organisational disciplinary procedures were underway.
Mohammed Rashedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Hossainpur Police Station, stated that preliminary investigations pointed towards a personal dispute fueled by past romantic involvement and familial opposition. Police teams were deployed to trace the whereabouts of the bride and ensure her safe recovery. Authorities confirmed that formal legal action would be initiated immediately upon the receipt of a written complaint from the affected family.
