A sombre atmosphere has descended upon the Kishoreganj District Police following the tragic death of Police Constable Nazrul Islam, 50, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road traffic accident. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning as a police team was returning to the station after successfully apprehending a suspect.
Circumstances of the Incident
The tragedy unfolded between 1:30 am and 2:00 am on the night of Saturday, 15 February. A detachment from the Hoseinpur Police Station had arrested a suspect, identified as Firoz Mia, in the Padorgati area of Govindapur Union. While the officers were transporting the suspect back to headquarters via a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, they were involved in a violent head-on collision.
As the auto-rickshaw travelled along the Hoseinpur-Nandail road, it struck a ‘Jalsiri Paribahan’ passenger bus travelling in the opposite direction. The force of the impact left the small vehicle decimated and several occupants with life-threatening injuries.
Casualties and Medical Response
Constable Nazrul Islam, a resident of Nagdashimul village in the Gopalpur Upazila of Tangail, bore the brunt of the collision. Emergency services and local residents rushed to the scene to extricate the victims.

The injured were initially treated at the Hoseinpur Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to the Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj. Due to the critical nature of his condition, Constable Islam was moved to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he passed away at approximately 11:00 am on Sunday.
Investigation and Legal Action
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hoseinpur Police Station, Md. Rashedul Islam, confirmed the details of the fatality. He noted that while the suspect and three other officers remain under medical supervision, the offending bus has yet to be impounded.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a dedicated colleague,” the OC stated. “The driver of the Jalsiri Paribahan bus fled the scene immediately following the crash. Efforts are currently underway to track down the vehicle and its driver, and legal proceedings are being initiated.”
The body of the deceased officer, the son of the late Jamal Badshah, is expected to be returned to his family for burial following the completion of a post-mortem examination.
