Political Tension Mounts as BNP Bans NCP Chief Coordinator in Narayanganj

Political friction in Narayanganj intensified significantly on Saturday afternoon after leaders of the city’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) unit formally declared Nasiruddin Patwary, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), unwanted across the district. The decision was announced during a large-scale protest march and demonstration organised to condemn remarks made by NCP leaders against senior political figures, including BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The demonstration began late in the afternoon outside the Hosiery Association building in the city’s Missionpara quarter. Carrying banners and chanting slogans against the NCP, protesters marched through key commercial thoroughfares, passing Chashara and the Narayanganj Press Club precinct before converging near City Rail Gate No. 2 for a mass rally.

Addressing the gathering, local BNP leaders launched a sharp critique of the NCP, characterising it as a “commercial political entity” unaligned with genuine public interests. Speakers alleged that since the major political transformations following 5th August, NCP officials have increasingly relied on intimidation, public misinformation, and theatrical antics to further financial and political ambitions.

Underlining their party’s political history, BNP representatives highlighted seventeen years of persistent street-level opposition against previous authoritarian regimes. They asserted that personal attacks, derogatory remarks, and misinformation campaigns would not weaken the public standing or credibility of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Issuing an explicit warning, party leaders declared that any future attempt by Nasiruddin Patwary to enter Narayanganj district would be met with resolute resistance on the ground.

Delivering the keynote address, Narayanganj Mahanagar BNP Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu called on political rivals to acknowledge historical realities before targeting established national leadership. He remarked that Tarique Rahman, supported by more than two decades of active political experience, currently commands widespread public support across the country.

Advocate Tipu advised NCP officials to abandon extortion tactics, theatrical displays, and provocative language, warning that continued attacks against national leaders would provoke an assertive response from the general public.

The rally saw a strong turnout from senior local leaders and grassroots activists across the city. Key figures in attendance included Mahanagar BNP Joint Conveners Fateh Reza Ripon and Anwar Hossain Anu, executive committee members Aowlad Hossain and Advocate Rafiq Ahmed, alongside Sadar Thana BNP President Masud Rana.
