A chilling tragedy has gripped Narayanganj’s Araihazar upazila after a post-mortem examination officially confirmed that a child, whose body was retrieved from a ditch a day after vanishing, was murdered. Local law enforcement swiftly moved on the breakthrough, arresting four suspects in connection with the crime. The accused individuals were produced before a court on Monday afternoon under tight security, following their apprehension late Sunday night.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Atikul Kazi, 32, Shanto Kazi, 23, Habib Kazi, 21, and Shiuli, 35.
According to accounts from local residents and police investigations, the harrowing sequence of events began on the afternoon of 21 June, when the young victim mysteriously went missing. Distraught family members scoured every available corner of the neighbourhood, reaching out to relatives and combing nearby areas without success. Faced with mounting panic and no trace of the child, the family lodged a formal general diary at the local Araihazar police station.
Tragedy struck the following morning on 22 June, when villagers spotted a lifeless body floating in a roadside ditch and immediately alerted the authorities. Police rushed to the scene, pulled the body from the water, and promptly dispatched it to a hospital morgue for a comprehensive autopsy. From the very outset, the grieving family maintained that the child had been deliberately murdered and dumped into the stagnant water to conceal the crime.
The recent release of the post-mortem report has validated the family’s worst fears, revealing definitive medical evidence of foul play and homicide. Armed with these forensic findings, investigators escalated their probe and carried out coordinated night-time raids to round up the primary suspects.
Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sabzel Hossain confirmed the developments to the press, stating that the autopsy report leaves no doubt that the child was killed. A murder case has been formally registered against the detained individuals. He added that the four suspects were sent to court on Monday afternoon while intensive inquiries continue to determine the exact motive behind the killing and to track down any other potential accomplices still at large.
