Prime Minister Oversees Key Government Initiatives

For the second consecutive day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman conducted his official duties from his office at the Secretariat. Arriving at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Building shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, 19 February, he devoted the day to a series of critical government programmes and inter-ministerial meetings.

A senior official close to the Prime Minister noted that the decision to operate from the Secretariat had been anticipated. The Prime Minister’s own office, along with the riverside facilities along the Jamuna, are still undergoing renovation. As a result, administrative activities are temporarily being managed from the Secretariat premises.

At 11:30 a.m., the Prime Minister convened an inter-ministerial meeting focused on the distribution of the Family Card scheme. This initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding social security coverage and enhancing access to government services nationwide. Officials from all relevant ministries attended, discussing operational plans, timelines, and implementation directives.

Later, at 2:00 p.m., the Prime Minister chaired a meeting addressing environmental and water resource conservation. The session concentrated on ensuring the implementation of key initiatives over the next five years, including the planting of 25 crore trees, dredging of rivers and canals, and restoration of water reservoirs. Government sources describe the plan as a transformative step towards environmental protection, flood management, and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Throughout the day, the Prime Minister also held personal discussions with ministry officials to review ongoing projects and issue guidance for new initiatives. Observers noted that his hands-on approach signals a commitment to prompt and effective execution of government programmes.
