Ride-Sharing Motorcyclist Killed in Mirpur Bus Collision

A 30-year-old ride-sharing motorcyclist was killed after being struck by a passenger bus in the Shewrapara area of Mirpur, Dhaka, late on Saturday night. Police have since seized the bus involved in the incident and detained both its driver and helper as legal proceedings get under way.

The fatal crash occurred at around 11:30 p.m. on 25 July. The victim, identified as Sabuj Rahman, sustained severe injuries in the collision and was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the attending physician declared him dead at approximately 12:30 a.m.

A passer-by, Sajib Khan, who helped transport the injured rider to hospital, described the events leading up to the rescue. He said he had been returning home from work and had mistakenly boarded an Alif Paribahan bus. After getting off at Shewrapara to catch another bus bound for Azimpur, he noticed a crowd gathered on the roadside.

Approaching the scene, he found a seriously injured man seated inside a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw while local residents attempted to assist him. According to people present at the scene, Sabuj Rahman had been travelling along the Shewrapara road on his motorcycle when a bus operated by Himalaya Paribahan struck him with considerable force.

Witnesses said the impact threw the rider onto the road, after which one of the bus’s wheels ran over his arm. The collision was also severe enough to shatter his safety helmet, highlighting the force of the crash. Local residents immediately came to his aid before Sajib Khan helped take him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors later confirmed his death.

Police responded to the incident shortly afterwards, seizing the bus allegedly involved in the collision. The driver and the helper were taken into custody for questioning. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the precise circumstances of the crash and whether negligence or violations of traffic regulations contributed to the fatal incident.

Sabuj Rahman hailed from Notabari village under Dimla upazila in Nilphamari district. His father is Mashiur Rahman. Although his permanent home was in northern Bangladesh, he had been living in the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka, where he earned his livelihood as a ride-sharing motorcycle rider.

Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed the death, citing the attending physician. He said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. The relevant police station has been informed, and the necessary legal procedures are now in progress.

The incident adds to the continuing concern over road safety in the capital, where collisions involving buses and motorcycles remain a recurring issue. Investigations into such crashes typically examine vehicle condition, driver conduct, adherence to traffic regulations, and eyewitness accounts before determining responsibility. In this case, authorities have begun the legal process while inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding Sabuj Rahman’s death.
