Seven-Year-Old Schoolgirl Allegedly Raped in Sunamganj

Police have detained a 25-year-old man in connection with the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl, a Class One pupil, in Sunamganj Sadar upazila.

The suspect, identified as Saiful Haque, was detained by police on Sunday afternoon following the reported incident. The girl’s father is preparing to file a case with Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station in connection with the allegation.

According to police and local sources, a police mobile team was sent to the area shortly after the incident was reported. Before officers arrived, local residents had allegedly detained Saiful and subjected him to a beating. Police later reached the scene, took the seriously injured suspect into custody and brought the situation under control.

The child was rescued from the scene and sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for medical treatment. Her condition and the extent of any injuries will be assessed by medical professionals, while the authorities are expected to follow the appropriate procedures in handling the case.

Saiful Haque is the son of Samru Mia of Bade Sadakpur, also known locally as Buristhal, in Mollapara Union of Sunamganj Sadar upazila. His permanent address is reportedly in the Naya Hasannagar area of Sunamganj municipal town.

After being taken into police custody, Saiful was also brought to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for initial medical treatment because of injuries sustained before the police arrived. Following treatment, he was taken back into police custody and kept at the police station.

The alleged incident has caused concern among local residents, particularly because the victim is a young school-going child. Child protection experts and law enforcement agencies generally stress the need for suspected cases of sexual violence against children to be handled through proper legal procedures, ensuring the safety and privacy of the victim while allowing investigators to establish the facts.

The child’s father is expected to lodge a formal complaint with the police, after which the authorities will proceed with the legal process. The investigation is likely to include recording statements from relevant individuals and examining available evidence in accordance with the law.

Police have not yet disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence. The suspect remains in police custody as the case moves towards formal legal proceedings. As the investigation is ongoing, the allegation against him has yet to be established in court.
