In a grim manifestation of the growing toll of youth drug addiction, a 38-year-old milk vendor was fatally assaulted by his minor son in the early hours of Monday morning in Savar, following an argument over the teenager’s drug habits.
The victim, identified as Mohin Miyan, resided with his family in the Chhakipara neighbourhood of Rajfulbaria, falling under the jurisdiction of the Tetuljhora Union. The tragic event took place at dawn when Mohin Miyan attempted to intervene and stop his 15-year-old son, Jishan, from consuming illicit drugs inside their home.
Violent Escalation and Fatal Assault
According to local authorities and neighbours, an argument broke out between the two after the father explicitly forbade his son from engaging in substance abuse. The altercation quickly deteriorated into physical violence when the youth turned aggressively on his father.
During the ensuing struggle, Jishan struck Mohin Miyan repeatedly, dealing a devastating blow to the victim’s testicular area. The severity of the blunt force trauma caused the older man to collapse immediately, dying on the spot before neighbours could arrange emergency transport or medical care.
Police Response and Legal Proceedings
Upon discovering the incident, distressed local residents alerted the Savar Model Police Station. A police team arrived shortly thereafter to take control of the crime scene, secure evidence, and take the suspect into custody.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station, Noor Mohammad, confirmed the arrest and outlined the immediate steps being taken by law enforcement:
“Responding to information provided by local residents, our team recovered the body from the residence and apprehended the accused teenager. The deceased has been sent to the morgue at Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for an autopsy. Further legal action will follow as the investigation progresses.”

The horrific nature of the crime underscores a broader social crisis facing suburban hubs around the capital, such as Savar. The influx of cheap narcotics into industrial and residential neighbourhoods has increasingly drawn vulnerable youths into addiction, often triggering extreme domestic hostility, domestic abuse, and severe crime.
Local community members have expressed profound shock over the incident, calling for stricter measures against drug trafficking rings operating in the area to prevent further families from being destroyed by similar tragedies. Police confirmed that formal murder charges are being drawn up following the completion of preliminary inquest procedures.
