Teknaf Police Arrest Nahid with Four Firearms, 79 Rounds

Police in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf have arrested Abdul Khaleque alias Nahid, 31, who is accused in multiple cases involving murder, abduction, firearms, drugs and robbery. Police said Nahid had been wanted in several cases and was also the subject of arrest warrants.

Four firearms, 79 rounds of ammunition and an unregistered CNG-powered auto-rickshaw were recovered during the operation, according to police.

Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam confirmed the arrest on Tuesday (11 August).

Police said the arrest took place at around 1.45am on Monday (10 August) in the Moullvipada area of Leda in Ward 8 of Hnila Union. Nahid was reportedly inside a numberless CNG auto-rickshaw near Kalu’s shop on an unpaved brick-laid road when local residents became suspicious of his movements.

The residents reportedly chased him and informed the police. Officers subsequently reached the area and detained Nahid. Five unidentified individuals who were allegedly with him managed to flee before police could apprehend them.

Following the arrest, officers searched Nahid and recovered a pistol with a magazine, including two rounds of ammunition inside the magazine. Three locally manufactured single-shot firearms were also seized.

Police further recovered 69 rounds of rifle ammunition and 10 rounds of pistol ammunition, bringing the total number of rounds seized to 79. A white-coloured angle grinder and an unregistered CNG auto-rickshaw were also taken into police custody.

According to the police, Nahid has 16 cases against him over allegations including murder, abduction, illegal possession of firearms, drug-related offences and robbery. Several of those cases are still under investigation, while others are currently being heard in court. Police also said that two additional arrest warrants had been issued against him.

The latest arrest comes amid continued police operations in Teknaf targeting individuals accused in serious criminal cases and the illegal possession or use of firearms. The recovery of several weapons and a substantial quantity of ammunition is now part of the evidence being processed in the case.

A case has been filed at Teknaf Model Police Station under the Arms Act against Nahid and the unidentified individuals who fled the scene. Police said efforts were continuing to identify and arrest the five absconding suspects.

Authorities are also expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the recovered firearms, ammunition and vehicle as part of the ongoing legal proceedings. Nahid will face further legal action in connection with the cases already pending against him, alongside the new firearms case filed after his arrest.
