According to local residents and family members, the tragic altercation took place on Saturday night at around ten o’clock in the North Bhandarkhola area under the eighth ward of Raripara union in Kachua upazila. Tensions had been simmering since the afternoon when a disagreement arose between Bedar Mallick’s family and their neighbours concerning a female neighbour’s domestic ducks. What began as a heated exchange of words quickly spiralled out of control, transforming into a violent physical confrontation.

According to the allegations made by the victim’s family, the neighbouring family—comprising Ramzan, his wife Lamia, his parents, and their son—launched a brutal attack. Armed with wooden sticks and heavy door bars, the assailants allegedly beat Bedar Mallick, his wife Halima, his son Kaiyum, and his daughter-in-law Sumi. Bedar Mallick sustained severe injuries and collapsed on the spot. Neighbours rushed to the scene and transported him urgently to the Kachua Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor pronounced him dead upon arrival.

As details of the tragic event emerged, various media platforms reported extensively on how a trivial domestic dispute culminated in such a devastating loss of life. Local community leaders noted that patience and amicable mediation could have prevented the needless escalation.

Local law enforcement agencies acted swiftly following the incident. Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Mamun stated that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over domestic ducks, confirming that Bedar Mallick lost his life and his son sustained injuries during the melee. Police have already taken Ramzan, his wife Lamia, and his mother into protective custody. Authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover all details, and legal proceedings are currently ongoing to ensure accountability.
