A road traffic collision in Chandpur Sadar has resulted in the death of a 17-year-old SSC candidate, identified as Md. Joha, after a truck struck a motorcycle in the Bagadi area. Another motorcycle rider, Md. Sajjil (20), was injured in the same incident and is currently receiving treatment at Chandpur Government General Hospital. The accident occurred on Sunday (31 May) at approximately 1:30 pm on the Chandpur–Raipur road in the Islamapur Gashtola Badamtoli area.
According to family sources, Md. Joha was the nephew of former Union Parishad Chairman Mohammad Ali Pathan of the Pathan Bari in Islamapur Gashtola. He was the son of Miraj Saleh Uddin Taslim from Shahrasthi Upazila. He had been living with his maternal family since early childhood and was the youngest of two siblings. He participated in this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations from Chandpur Government Technical School.
The injured rider, Md. Sajjil, is the son of Abu Taher Patwary of the Patwary Bari in the same locality. He remains under medical care at Chandpur Government General Hospital.
Eyewitness accounts state that Joha and his friend Sajjil were travelling by motorcycle towards the Faridganj road when a truck approaching from behind collided with their vehicle. The impact caused both riders to fall onto the road, leaving them seriously injured. Local residents immediately rescued them and transported them to Chandpur Government General Hospital, where doctors declared Joha dead upon arrival.
Md. Asibul Hasan, Residential Medical Officer (RMO) of Chandpur Government General Hospital, confirmed that the SSC student was brought to the hospital already deceased. The injured passenger is currently undergoing treatment.
Police from Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that the truck fled the scene after the collision. Inspector (Investigation) Mintu Dutta stated that a post-mortem examination and inquest have been completed. Legal procedures are underway, after which the body will be released to the family.
