Two Teenage Boys Drown in Lake Tragedy

Two teenage boys have tragically lost their lives after drowning while swimming in the DNCC-DND Lake in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, Bangladesh.

The deceased have been identified as Monirul (15) and Shuvo (15), both seventh-grade students at Gudnail Bagpara Alim Madrasa. Their bodies were recovered from the lake early on Tuesday morning (12 May) at around 6:00 a.m., after an overnight search operation.

According to police and local accounts, the incident occurred on Monday (11 May) afternoon after the boys had completed their examinations. They had reportedly played football with friends at a nearby field before going to the lake with a group of five teenagers for bathing. While three of the group returned home safely, Monirul and Shuvo went missing during the swim.

Family members, noticing their absence, began searching various locations throughout the night. However, their efforts proved unsuccessful until local residents spotted two bodies floating in the lake early the following morning and immediately alerted the authorities.

Police from Siddhirganj Station responded promptly to the scene. Sub-Inspector Masum Billah confirmed that a formal inquest report was prepared after the recovery of the bodies. He added that there were no visible signs of foul play and that initial findings point towards accidental drowning.

Following legal procedures, and in the absence of any formal complaints from the families, the bodies were handed over to their respective relatives for burial.
