A decomposed body of an unidentified young man has been recovered from the Shitalakshya River in Narayanganj city by river police.
The recovery was made on Wednesday morning (6 May) near Kerosene Ghat, where the body was found floating in the river. According to authorities, the deceased is believed to be a male aged approximately 30 years, though his identity has not yet been established.
Local residents first noticed the body drifting in the water and promptly informed the police. Following the alert, personnel from the Narayanganj Sadar River Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered the body from the river.
Police officials stated that the body had likely been in the water for several days, as signs of decomposition were clearly visible at the time of recovery. However, no visible injury marks were found on the body during the initial examination conducted at the scene.
After recovery, the body was transported to Narayanganj General Hospital, where it has been placed in the morgue for a post-mortem examination. Authorities said the autopsy will help determine the exact cause of death.
In order to identify the deceased, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been assigned to the case. Efforts are currently underway to confirm the identity of the young man through various investigative methods.
An officer from the Narayanganj Sadar River Police, Sub-Inspector Habibur Rahman Khan, confirmed the recovery operation. He said that the body was retrieved based on information provided by local residents and subsequently sent for legal and medical procedures. He further added that no signs of external physical assault were detected during the preliminary inspection.
At this stage, police have not ruled out any possibilities regarding the circumstances of death, but they have emphasised that no conclusive determination can be made until the post-mortem report is completed and further investigation progresses.
