In Ramgati, Lakshmipur, a fire broke out early Friday morning at around 4 am, destroying 15 shops at Alexander Market in the Upazila headquarters. Affected shopkeepers reported losses amounting to nearly tens of millions of taka, including cash, goods, and shop structures.
Locals said the fire started at a bedding store owned by a businessman named Rasel due to an electrical short circuit. The flames quickly spread to neighbouring shops. Two units of the Ramgati Fire Service, with local assistance, managed to control the fire after about one and a half hours.
Acting Station Officer Khokon Majumdar of the Ramgati Fire Service and Officer-in-Charge Kabir Hossain of Ramgati Police Station confirmed that the fire was brought under control with help from police and locals.
