184 Undocumented Migrant Workers Detained in Malaysia Raid

The Malaysian Immigration Department has detained 184 undocumented migrant workers during a raid at a battery factory in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. The operation was conducted on Wednesday morning based on allegations of immigration offences.

According to state Immigration Department director Kenneth Tan Ai Kiang, the detainees include 163 men and 21 women from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan and Indonesia, aged between 20 and 49.

During the nearly four-hour operation, officers screened a total of 219 foreign workers, detaining 184 of them for working without permits and staying in the country without valid documentation.

Tan said some workers attempted to hide behind power supply units and piles of factory products, but all were eventually apprehended.

The detainees have been placed at the Lenggeng Immigration Detention Centre, where further investigations and legal procedures are underway.

The raid is part of the department’s ongoing effort to reduce the number of unauthorised foreign workers in Malaysia’s labour market.
