Central Vietnam Floods Claim 41 Lives, 9 Missing

Central Vietnam has been hit by severe flooding, resulting in at least 41 fatalities and leaving nine people missing, according to the Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention Department. The devastating floods have caused widespread destruction to homes, farmland, and livestock, displacing thousands of residents.

Local media outlet VN Express reported that more than 52,000 homes were submerged by the floodwaters, while thousands of hectares of farmland suffered significant damage. Large numbers of livestock, including cattle, ducks, and chickens, either drowned or perished, compounding the crisis for rural communities.

The worst-hit provinces include Dak Lak, which reported 16 deaths, and Khanh Hoa, where 14 fatalities were recorded. At the peak of the extreme weather, over one million households were left without electricity. Power restoration efforts have since succeeded in reconnecting nearly 600,000 homes.

In addition to flooding, authorities reported more than 140 landslides on provincial roads, which have hampered rescue and relief operations. Thousands of rescue workers, police personnel, and volunteers have been deployed to evacuate residents, deliver emergency aid, and manage relief efforts in the affected areas.

Local authorities have issued urgent safety warnings, advising residents to remain in secure locations and avoid rivers, low-lying areas, and mountainous regions prone to landslides. Relief teams are distributing food, drinking water, and essential supplies to affected communities, while temporary shelters have been established for displaced families.
