A teenage girl was shot dead by her father during a Trump-related argument.

In a tragic incident in Prosper, Texas, near Dallas, a young British woman was fatally shot by her father following a heated debate about President Donald Trump. The victim, 23-year-old Lucy Harrison, from Warrington in Cheshire, United Kingdom, was visiting her father in the United States shortly before the inauguration of Trump’s second term.

According to reports, Lucy was shot in the chest on 10 January while at her father’s home. Local authorities initially treated the incident as a possible case of manslaughter. However, a grand jury in Collin County later declined to file charges against Chris Harrison, her father, meaning no criminal proceedings were initiated.

The coroner’s inquest into Lucy’s death has now begun in Cheshire, during which her boyfriend, Sam Littler, testified about the circumstances leading up to the tragedy. Littler stated that the argument centred on Trump’s upcoming second term and that Lucy had been particularly distressed by her father’s frequent discussions about firearms.

According to Littler, Lucy had asked her father during the confrontation, “If I were a girl who had been sexually assaulted, how would you feel?” He allegedly replied that he had two other daughters, implying the situation did not concern him greatly. Upset, Lucy reportedly went upstairs, where the fatal incident occurred shortly thereafter.

The inquest revealed that Lucy had been in the kitchen about half an hour before she was due to leave for the airport. Her father then reportedly took her by the hand to a bedroom. Approximately fifteen seconds later, a loud gunshot was heard. Chris Harrison allegedly called for his wife immediately after.

Littler described entering the room to find Lucy collapsed near the bathroom door, while Chris Harrison was behaving in an unusual and distressed manner. In a statement to the court, Harrison explained that he had intended to show Lucy a firearm—a Glock 9mm pistol kept for family safety. He claimed he did not recall how the weapon discharged or whether his finger was on the trigger. Harrison also disclosed that he had consumed roughly 500 millilitres of white wine that day and had a history of alcohol rehabilitation.

Police officer Luciana Escalera testified that she detected the scent of alcohol on Harrison’s breath upon arriving at the scene. CCTV footage reportedly showed Harrison purchasing two 500-millilitre bottles of Chardonnay from a 7-Eleven prior to the shooting.

During the early stages of the hearing, Harrison’s lawyer requested that the coroner step aside, alleging bias, but this was rejected by coroner Jacqueline Devonish. Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, described her daughter as a caring individual who enjoyed engaging in meaningful debates and discussions.
