Bhola, 12 February 2026 — Voting at Alinagar School and College polling station in Bhola Sadar Upazila was temporarily suspended today following an attempted attack involving a cocktail explosion. The incident occurred on the centre’s grounds around 12:15 p.m., causing panic among staff and voters.

According to Md. Omar Faruk, the presiding officer of the centre, a group of individuals detonated an improvised explosive device in an effort to enter the polling station. “They tried to create disorder by exploding a bomb and intimidating the officials on duty, but they failed to carry out significant damage or disruption,” he stated. Voting at the centre was suspended immediately as a precautionary measure.

Local law enforcement confirmed that the intruders attempted to seize ballot papers. Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bhola Sadar Model Police Station, said, “A group of people tried to take ballot papers from the polling station. We have detained at least one individual. The matter is under investigation.”

An executive magistrate was present at the scene and oversaw the immediate security measures to ensure the safety of voters and staff. Authorities are reviewing the station’s security protocols to prevent any further attempts to interfere with the election process.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, highlighting the challenges of maintaining safety and integrity during the ongoing national elections. Election officials have urged voters to remain calm and report any suspicious activity immediately.
