Nilphamari, 12 February — Voter turnout in Nilphamari district was notably high on Thursday as citizens flocked to polling stations for the parliamentary elections. From the early morning, long queues formed outside key centres, with the Pilot Girls’ High School polling station emerging as a focal point for voters.
Amid the routine hustle of the day, a remarkable scene drew widespread attention. Samiul Islam, 32, a resident of Sarkarpur, Niyamatpur, Nilphamari Sadar, arrived at his polling station dressed in full wedding attire to cast his vote. Newly married on the same day, he explained his decision: “Today is one of the most memorable days of my life. Even during my wedding celebrations, I felt it was my duty to participate in the election. I hope that young people, in particular, exercise their voting rights conscientiously and choose capable candidates.”
Locals lauded Samiul’s initiative. Anarul Islam, a resident, commented, “It is truly inspiring to see a groom turn up to vote. This sets a great example for young people, demonstrating the importance of active participation in elections.”
